From auvpto at aol.com Sun Sep 7 21:09:18 2008 From: auvpto at aol.com (auvpto at aol.com) Date: Sun, 07 Sep 2008 21:09:18 -0400 Subject: [CabotCommunity] Meet and Greet Jim Swaim - Reminder Message-ID: <8CADF66A77EE8D1-85C-37BB@webmail-mf09.sysops.aol.com> Hello and welcome everyone to the new school year! I hope you have had a nice transition so far.? ? As announced earlier, we have been planning a few "Meet and Greet Jim Swaim" (Cabot's new interim principal) events. Over the summer, we had one such event for the families of children with special needs, which was well attended and quite successful.? ? We have a second "Meet and Greet" scheduled this Wednesday, September 10 and everyone is invited to attend. Originally scheduled to be held at Jenny Gamson and Steve Seckler's house, this event has been moved to the Vahalia home at 53 Sheffield Road, from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. Please note that this is a strictly social event for adults to get an opportunity to chat with Jim in a casual environment. If you have specific question related to your child, or your particular classroom, please schedule a meeting with him by calling the office.? ? We realize there may be interest in a third "Meet and Greet" later in the fall. If you would like to attend and can't come on September 10, please contact me, Archana Vahalia or Jenny Gamson (jenny at seckler.com). If enough people are interested, we will try to find another date. No childcare will be provided. ? I hope you can make it, and see you around.? ? ?Archana Vahalia Cabot PTO Co-President auvpto at aol.com 617-244-1435 SAVE PAPER. Safe Routes to School and International Walk to School Day on Wednesday, October 8 ? As many of you know, Cabot School has been a member of Safe Routes to School (SRTS) for just about 2 years.? The MA SRTS program provides resources to en courage communities to walk safely to school.? Cabot had great success last year with many people making a commitment to walk, either on their own or by joining one of the 2 walking school buses. ?School bus ridership for those eligible, (ie: live father than 1 mile away) also increased.? Families who needed to drive also took the time to park just a bit farther away to help reduce traffic congestion immediately around the school.? We hope to keep this trend going. ? Stay tuned to learn more information about the Walking School Buses and also how Cabot will be joining schools from 42 countries around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Day on October 8, 2008. ? Every class needs 4-6 room parents including a lead room parent to act as a liaison between the teacher and the other parents. Major duties of a room parent are to contact other parents from time to time with teacher and PTO requests and to help 2-3 times a year planning events such as the family breakfast morning.?
