Staff Appreciation Luncheon Today, May 6th!

Every year the PTO hosts a Staff Appreciation Lunch for the faculty of Cabot School to express our gratitude for their hard work all year long.  This year the luncheon will be held today, Tuesday, May 6th at 12:45 p.m.  At this luncheon, we turn the Cabot gymnasium into 'Chez Cabot'.  We set tables with centerpieces, set the buffet with a wide variety of delicious food, caringly donated and prepared by many of you, and entertainment is provided by the Cabot Parent Chorus. Thanks to Sally Brickell and the Cabot Acknowledgement Committee for planning this important event.

Cabot School ART happenings

 - Be sure to stop by Shaw’s supermarket in Newtonville to enjoy artwork by first graders in Ms. Forseter's class alongside the escalator.

 - Also, join us for an "Elephants can Paint too!" art auction on Wednesday, May 7, in the main lobby and fine arts wing. The auction is open to everyone; we are raising money to purchase an actual painting created by a real elephant. Our purchase helps the species and supports conservation efforts in Thailand.

 - Finally, the Artwork for Education greeting cards are scheduled to be delivered to Cabot School this Wednesday.  We hope to have them all sorted and sent home by Thursday (just in time for Mother's Day!)  Thanks to everyone who ordered these cards and to Susan Poole for organizing this fundraiser.

Walk to School Tomorrow - Massachusetts Walk to School Day!
Tomorrow is Massachusetts Walk to School Day.  Cabot will be participating along with many other cities and towns in the state.  We know not everyone can walk, but please try if you can.  Or try to car pool, walk to the bus stop,  park a few streets away and walk the rest, or encourage your child to walk around the playground with a friend during recess.

Move Newton Forward Needs You! Support your school and public education in Newton!  Move Newton Forward is advocating for the $12 million override for our schools and city services.  With this money, Newton schools can continue to provide the high quality education we all value and expect -- plus can improve such necessary areas as technology and building maintenance.  We need volunteers to help reach voters with a variety of activities including holding signs, hosting house parties, contacting friends and other community members, etc.  If you feel strongly about public education here in Newton and want to help ensure that our children get the best possible education our city can give, then volunteer by contacting our Cabot School Coordinators Sarah Hemphill at sarahhemphill at rcn.com or John Kett at johnakett at gmail.com.

A Celebration of Teaching -Retirement Party for Dr. Quarcoo & Mrs. Mann - June 12, 2008
Preliminary planning has begun to celebrate the retirement of our Principal Dr. Quarcoo and Grade 2 Teacher Mrs. Mann. We will be celebrating their retirements on Thursday June 12th.  There will be an in-school celebration, so all students can attend, and then a larger community-wide celebration that afternoon from 3:30 - 5:30pm.  If you are interesting in helping volunteer for this day, please contact Sally Brickell at brickland6 at rcn.com.  We are also collecting items, (comments, notes and pictures) to put into a memory book for each of them.  If you would like to add something, please submit any items to the 'Memory Books' mailbox in the office by June 2, 2008.
