Dear Cabot Community -

There are 2 meetings being held this week that we wish to inform you about.
The Long Range Facilities Forum and Newton Central Little League. As luck
would have it, they are both being held at the same time on the same date.
It is our duty to inform you of them both. There is also a note below for
Newton School Bus riders.

Thank you!

 *Long Range Facilities Forum
January 8, 2008 - 7:00 PM*

The School Committee will be hosting a public meeting to discuss long range
long-range facilities planning in the Oak Hill Middle School library. As
with past interactive forums, this is a chance for community members to come
to the table and share their ideas. HMFH architects presented the revised
facilities options at the regular School Committee meeting on December 10,
2007. The options are also posted on the School Committee website under "Hot
Topics / Long Range Facilities". NewTV will be taping the forum for later
broadcast.

 *FY09 Budget Discussion*
**
The School Committee will begin discussions on two versions of the FY09
School Budget on January 14, 2007. The full calendar of budget discussions
is attached.
**
*Override Budget* - Because of the upcoming override vote, the School
Committee will be reviewing and debating two budgets for FY09. The first is
called the Override Budget and will be reviewed in January of 2008. This
budget will reflects what the school department programs and services will
look like with the additional funds available if the overrides passes. Click
on to the School Committee website to see the guidelines for the override
budget. http://www.newton.k12.ma.us/schoolcommittee/budget/budget09.html

*Allocation Budget* - The second budget is called the Allocation Budget.
This budget will reflect what the school department programs and services
will be with the revenues available without a tax override. The Budget
Guidelines for the Allocation Budget will be reviewed and voted on by the
School Committee in December 2007. Click on to the School Committee
website to see the guidelines for the non-override budget.

by the Friday after each meeting. This document is meant to give a timely
update on issues before the School Committee before the detailed minutes are
approved and archived.

Attention: Parents of Newton Bus Riders

We are requesting your help to begin 2008 safely by reviewing bus safety
rules with your
children; i.e., remain seated facing forward with feet on the floor, buckle
up those seat belts, speak quietly so as not to disturb the bus driver.
Also, some children are not willing to share seats with others or allow one
child and not another to share. With the large number of kids riding the
bus, children need to board the bus and quickly be seated and
safe when the bus begins moving. We'll also remind the kids to be courteous
to one another.

Thanks and Happy New Year! - Betsy and Alice
