 As you know there is great effort going on in the city of Newton for energy saving and using solar energy.? Newton energy consumption
continues to climb in spite of increased awareness of the harm caused
by CO2 emissions and global warming. City encourages students to reflect and speak out in a creative way towards global warming and energy conservation. Mayor David B. Cohen announced the 2008 Student Energy Conservation contest on February 2, which includes the essay contest as well as an art contest so that we can give children new ways to express their feelings and ideas about this important issue affecting us all.

The Newton Student Art and Essay Contest on Conserving Energy
The Green Decade Coalition and the Mayor's advisory committees on Renewable Resources and Sustainability envision that the essay and art contests and the related publicity will encourage people to reduce their energy consumption. The contests are open to all students who live or go to school in Newton, grades K-12. Students may enter either or both contests, and the submission deadline is March 30, 2008. Entries will be judged by school level; registration information and other details are available at the Green Decade website at: http://www.greendecade.org/energycontestinfo.html.

In addition, the Newton Schools Foundation will also send out an essay and art contest memo to over 2,000 Newton School teachers and administrators.? You can find details in the attached electronic version of the flyer. You will also receive the paper flyers, when available.

Submission deadline: March 30, 2008
Announcement of Winners: April 2008 (Week of Earth Day)
Judging: Newton Teachers (current and former)
The TAB will print the names of the contest winners
