LAST PTO MEETING OF THE YEAR!
The Final PTO Meeting of the year was held this morning of which approximately 20 people attended. At this meeting we elected our new PTO Co-President, Archana Vahalia! Please thank Archana for stepping up take this important position, and also thank Rosemary Thomsen who is continuing as PTO Treasurer and Lori Seuch who is continuing as VP of Fundraising. We said good bye and thank you to Jo Doherty, for her dedication and hardwork over the past two years and to Michele Weinfeld who has served as Treasurer for the past few years. The PTO Budget for the 2007 – 2008 School Year was approved. We were updated on the Long-Term Facility report by Sarah Ecker and Sue Covitz and about the modulars by Isabelle Thacker. We were addressed by Dr. Quarcoo, who discussed enrollment figures and staffing for next year. We discussed many other items, including the traffic issues, the Cabot Community Garden, available PTO positions, School Forms for next year, and Art for Education, a children’s artwork program and possible fundraiser. Thanks to Ann Duvall who took the minutes of the meeting, which we will post on the website shortly!
Thanks to you – the PTO had a financially successful year!
Due to your generosity and the overwhelming success of such events as the Cabot Fair, coupled with lower then expected expenditures, we have some money left in the PTO bank account this year. We are going to use this money to support the faculty in 2 ways:
We purchased $75 gift cards to Staples to give faculty members funds to help replenish their classroom supplies over the summer and to help offset their out of pocket expenses as they get ready for next year.
We are tripling the amount allocated by the City for teacher continuing education classes and workshops. Teacher will be able to take courses that interest them and will enhance their teaching skills and the PTO will help defray the costs of these fees.
Thank you for helping us support and appreciate the Faculty at Cabot School by your generosity this year! Thank you!!
Color Day!
A big THANK YOU to all the volunteers who helped out at last week's Color Day, and to Ms. Bennett and Daphne Potter for organizing the wonderful day which has become a very important part of the Cabot tradition. Our second attempt (aka rain date) at Color Day was a huge amount of fun and the weather really cooperated. Seeing Dr. Quarcoo working on the roof was a highlight of the day. She said she would work on the roof if the students helped do their part to keep the bathrooms tidy, which they did! The day couldn't have gone on without the numerous volunteers that showed up to help run the activity stations and cheer on the Red, White, and Blue teams. We hope we are not forgetting anyone but a special thank you goes to: Ruth Ginsberg (Jacobs grandma K), Lisa & Marc Svensson, The Reilly's, Jo Doherty, Anya Bassett, Mary Kathryn Fallon, Sandy Connors, Faith Witte, Mark Shoham, Toby Berla, Susan Phillips, Elizabeth (Maya M's Nanny),Emily Hess, Lisa Porter, Janet Lehman, Mark Nardone, Archana Vahalia, Chris Kjellson, Madison Griswold's Grandma, Joan Butterton and Donna Cooper, Kate Dulit, Sarah Thomsen (former Cabot student), Sandee Simshauser, Brett Leav, Laura Dreese, Deborah Mitchell, Karen Blatt, and Jeanmarie Patriacca, not to mention all the faculty who pitched in to run stations and the teachers who kept score. Congrats to Ms. Stahl's 2nd grade class who correctly guessed the number of fig newtons in the 'Guessing Jar', there were 70, and to Mr. Ripp's 4th grade class for the most energetic cheer "T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U ". GO TEAM!
The Cabot Walking School Bus Is Being Launched On Friday, June 15th!
The Walking School Bus will be launched this Friday, June 15th! We are trying to make a difference at Cabot and you can help! Keeping our children safe, while reducing traffic and helping the environment is a winning combination. There will be 2 buses, one from Langdon and Surrey, going down Winchester and East Side Parkway and another from Morse Street to Blake to Withington. If you are interested in participating, or finding out the times of the bus stops in your area, please contact either Mary Kathryn Fallon at marykathf at aol.com or Liz Haas at haas.joffe@ rcn.com . We hope to have more bus stops in the fall, so if you are interested in participating, or being a parent ‘driver’, please let us know!
PTO PICNIC – LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
Join the Cabot Community for an informal picnic after the last day of school, June 20, 2007, at 12:00 noon on the field. Bring a picnic lunch and join the fun!
PLEASE RETURN 2 SELF-ADDRESSED ENVELOPES
Please send in 2 self-addressed, stamped envelopes for each student before the end of the year. Your child’s teacher will collect these and they will be used to notify you of your child’s class assignment and class list during the month of August.
LIBRARY
For many years, our school library has been enhanced by donations made in honor of children and teachers or other
adults, to express gratitude, to mark special occasions, or to celebrate a particular event. It is an excellent way to
thank teachers at holiday time and at year-end. See the attached form or pick one up from Mrs. Gerson in the Cabot
School Library.
Lost & Found
The pile of items in the lobby is quite a sight,
Have you seen the lost & found bin? It is reaching a great height!
Sweatshirts, jackets, hats and even a comb;
All those beautiful items sitting without a home.
We’d like to you to check it and claim what is yours,
Because if it keeps growing, it will block the lobby doors!
Take it away, the T-shirts, lunch boxes, gloves and socks,
Because when school finishes next Wednesday, we’d like an empty box!
CABOT ARTWORK AT SHAWS SUPERMARKET
Artwork by Cabot students will be on display at Shaw’s Supermarket in Newtonville for the next month. Stop by this week and see ladybugs painted by kindergartners. The art should be on display on your right as you ascend the escalator. Thanks to Ms. Straight and Ms. Cain, Cabot School; and Mr. Therrien, Shaw’s Supermarket, for collaborating on this project.
