Have Fun at Color Day, June 5th - Volunteers Needed!
Don’t miss out on the fun of Cabot’s Annual Color Day! The whole school participates in this day of friendly competition. Each class is divided into 3 teams (red, white and blue) and participates in the games and activities. We are seeking volunteers to help run the stations. If you would like to help, we will need you from 9:15 – 12:00. We ask that volunteers where possible hold June 7th available as a rain date. It’s a fun filled morning so don’t miss this opportunity to experience Color Day! Respond to Dana Bennett at Dana_Bennett at newton.k12.ma.us or Daphne Potter at dfpotter at rcn.com
LAST PTO MEETING OF THE YEAR!
Join us for the Final PTO Meeting of the year on Tuesday, June 12th at 8:40am in the Library. At this meeting we will submit the PTO Budget for the 2007 – 2008 School Year for approval, Elect our New PTO Co-President and briefly recap other important issues…. Please join us as we vote to elect Archana Vahalia as the incoming PTO President to join Mary Kathryn Fallon next year, and thank her for stepping forward to volunteer for this position. Also, come along and find out what PTO Positions are currently still available and which Committees need members.
YEAR-END PTO THANK YOU POTLUCK
Please mark your calendar for the Year-End PTO Thank You Pot-Luck Party, to be held on Sunday June 10th at 10 Worth Circle, Newton, from 4:00 - 6:00PM. This event is held to thank ALL hardworking committee and community members, especially my co-President Jo Doherty. Jo’s dedication and hard work have truly been an inspiration to me this year, and it has been a great privilege to work with her. Please bring your family and join the celebration!
NEWTON SCHOOL’S GIFT POLICY
As we reach the end of the year please remember the Newton School Committee Policy: “No teacher in the performance of regular duties shall receive presents from the pupils under his or her direction.” Each year families are reminded of this policy, and each year most families comply. It is very natural for children and their families to want to acknowledge and thank their teachers at the end of the year.
Here are some suggestions:
A note of appreciation to your child’s teacher, or a card made by your child, would be treasured.
A homemade acknowledgement to your child’s teacher or faculty member, such as cookies or baked goods.
Please do not solicit money from families for class gifts.
If you need further clarification please speak with the Principal Marilynne Quarcoo or your PTO Co-Presidents, Jo Doherty and Mary Kathryn Fallon. Thank you for your cooperation.
All Aboard The Magic Cabot School Bus!
Thanks to all those new eligible families who rode the bus on the Ride The Bus to School Day May 18th. If you would like your children to continue to ride the bus for the remainder of the school year then please contact the office to obtain a green information sheet that needs to be filled out. This provides the school with information as to which days your children will be riding the bus etc,..
Newton Public School Safety Committee Meeting –
There is a meeting of the Newton Public School Safety Committee today at 1:00 in Room #222 in City Hall. The current parking situation of Cabot will be addressed at this meeting. We will be sending a representative to update you, or feel free o come along to the meeting.
Traffic & Walking
In anticipation of more traffic congestion next year, we are trying to establish 2 walking school bus routes to Cabot. Working with the Safe Routes to School Program, we will be sending out permission slips and let you know if there is one in your area. If you are interested in helping out, or being a parent walking volunteer (hopefully just 1 day per week), please contact either Mary Kathryn Fallon, marykathf at aol.com or Liz Haas, haasjoffe at rcn.com. Thanks!
The Lightbulbs are In!
The Energy Efficient Lightbulbs sold by the 4th Grade have been delivered from NSTAR. You order should have come home on Friday with your child, or it will come home today. Please let us know if you have not received your order after today. Thanks to the 4th Grade students and teachers, and especially to Cabot Parent Meg Wilcox and Mr. Tirrell for organizing this sale, and bringing awareness of energy efficiency to our community and thanks to so many of you who purchased them!
CABOT ARTWORK AT SHAWS SUPERMARKET
Artwork by Cabot students will be on display at Shaw’s Supermarket in Newtonville for the next month. Stop by this week and next to see Chinese brushwork created by second graders; in early June, look for ladybugs painted by kindergartners. The art should be on display on your right as you ascend the escalator. Thanks to Ms. Straight and Ms. Cain, Cabot School; and Mr. Therrien, Shaw’s Supermarket, for collaborating on this project.
Jazz Night at Newton North
The Newton North High School Jazz Ensemble will host its annual Jazz Night on Tuesday May 29, 7:30 pm. in the Lasker Auditorium at Newton North High School.
