1. The weight of 12 kangaroos is the same as the weight of 3 giraffes, the
weight of 20 deer is the same as the weight of 2 hippopotamus, and the
weight of 2 deer is the same as the weight of 1 giraffe.


a) How many kangaroos have the same weight as 8 giraffes?


 


 


b) How many deer have the same weight as 5 hippopotamus?


 

 

 

 

 

c) How many giraffes have the same weight as 6 hippopotamus?

 

 

2. An adult weighing 80 kilograms and 2 children, each of whom weighs 40
kilograms, want to cross a river.  They have only one boat.  All 3 are
capable of rowing the boat.  The boat is capable of holding only 80
kilograms on any one trip. How many trips will it take to get all 3 across a
river? Describe your answer. 

 

Draw a diagram to show each leg of the trip.
