MARILYNNE'S FIRESIDE NEIGHBORHOOD CHATS GET UNDERWAY!

Last week saw the first of the 6 neighborhood chats take place at the house
of Virginia Dean & Raoul Choos, Cabot Kindergarten parents. The gathering of
parents found the informal format useful and productive as a way of meeting
Principal Dr. Marilynne Quarcoo, getting answers to questions and meeting
other neighborhood Cabot parents. Our thanks go to Virginia and Raul for
hosting this evening and also to Dr. Quarcoo for initiating these informal
meet and greet sessions and giving of her own personal times after a busy
day at school!

Check your Cabot directory to discover the fireside chat happening nearest
to your house and RSVP to the host!

NEWTON ALDERMAN VISIT CABOT

Alderman Salvucci, Alderman Sangiolo and Alderman Weisbuch yesterday
accepted an invitation from the PTO to visit Cabot School to see firsthand
the condition of the building infrastructure and also to observe how
overcrowded our school actually is. This was an opportunity for the Aldermen
to experience the lack of space at Cabot and to see how creative Dr. Quarcoo
and the faculty and staff at Cabot have been in using every square inch of
usable space to date! Our thanks go to the Alderman who recently voted to
pass the purchase of the modulars recommended by the Newton School
Committee.

PTO Meeting - Tuesday, February 27th at 8:40am, principals office

Come join us to add your voice to our PTO deliberations. At this meeting we
will be discussing the state of our finances year to date, what to do with
any surplus from this years Campaign for Cabot, upcoming events such as the
Invention Invasion and proposed format changes to the Book Fair, what
fundraisers we should include in next years schedule and a preliminary look
at budget items for next year. In addition an update will be given on the
location of the modulars and exploring ways to alleviate congestion next
Fall especially at drop-off and pick-up.

INITIATIVE GETS GOING TO SET TRAFFIC POLICY AROUND CABOT NEXT YEAR

A kickoff meeting was held last week to identify current congestion and
traffic problems at Cabot with a view to identify solutions which could be
instigated for school year 2007-08 at Cabot. As many of you know we will
have 2 modulars at Cabot which will be sited at the rear of the building on
the faculty parking lot. Some, not all, parking will therefore be lost.
Obviously another 40 plus students and the loss of these parking spaces will
only exacerbate the congestion we already experience at drop-off and
pick-up.

What can we do? YOU can start to think about how you can compromise on your
daily activities with respect to Cabot. That's why we are asking you to
begin thinking about what you can do to alleviate this congestion. WE CAN
ALL DO SOMETHING! Maybe its taking the bus to school, or making a
determined effort to walk with a buddy system for you & your children, or
the revolutionary idea of not parking right on the streets by Cabot but
parking a few blocks away!!! Be part of the solution - help brainstorm
ideas that will alleviate the congestion. If you are interested in exploring
ways to encourage families to walk to school then please contact Liz Haas
haas.joffe at rcn.com Cabot parent School Council Co-Leader. If you are
interested in riding the bus or helping to increase the numbers of students
that ride the bus please contact Janet Hart parisharts at hotmail.com, Cabot
parent School Council Representative. And if you would like to help
establish parking and traffic policy around Cabot School please contact your
PTO co-chairs Jo Doherty jcdoherty11 at comcast.net or Mary Kathryn Fallon
marykathf at aol.com .

in Philadelphia. This short animated film shares his story in colorful
images and ear-catching rhyme. Kids can climb inside a replica of Henry's
box and make their own "freedom box" to take home, while parents chat with
producer and actress Karyn Parsons. The DVD

will be available for sale and signing. PREGISTRATION REQUIRED by Feb 19th

1930s. Voices premiered on National Public Radio, and Kearsley brought the
stage play of Voices to both of Newton's high schools last year - anyone who
saw it will tell you this is not to be missed! FREE. At the Newton Free
Library - cosponsored by the Library and the Museum.
