DON"T MISS YOUR CHANCE TO ASK QUESTIONS OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEMBERS AT CABOT
THIS WEDNESDAY EVENING

Don't forget this Wednesday January 17th at 7:30pm in the Cabot Music room
you have the opportunity to ask questions of your elected School Newton
School Committee Members Reenie Murphy and Marc Laredo. This is YOUR chance
to get those burning questions answered - maybe about the modulars coming to
Cabot next Fall, Newton's education budget or increasing elementary
enrollment. This is also an excellent opportunity to get answers to
questions you have about the Newton North high school project and
renovations for Cabot.

THE NEWTON PTO COUNCIL STRONGLY SUPPORTS A YES VOTE ON JANUARY 23rd

Following a meeting on Thursday, the Newton PTO Council voted strongly to
support a "YES" vote to approve Site Plan 5a in the Newton North referendum
January 23rd. They issued this statement:

Our members, the presidents of all of Newton's PTOs, are well-versed in
Newton school matters. Our decision, although supported by a very
significant majority,

was not unanimous, and reflects the opinion of PTO leaders only, not of the
individual PTOs. We acknowledge that many opponents are equally committed

to building a new building, but have concerns about Site Plan 5a.

We vote "YES" with the understanding that our elected officials will
continue to make improvements to the site plan as outlined in the aldermen's
board order.

We also believe that city officials must incorporate the advice of the Blue
Ribbon Commission in the final financing plan. We all have grave concerns
about other

vital capital needs, and those needs must be addressed.

A "no" vote will hold Newton North hostage to other needs in hopes of saving
substantial money-but do nothing to speed up other projects. Construction
costs

rise every month, and experience has shown that a new site plan could not be
created and vetted by this community quickly. Do we want to spend unknown
time

and money redesigning this building in order to save an unknown amount,
while accruing additional costs, risking generous state funding, and forcing
students and

teachers to endure the existing building even longer? Voting "no" out of
unhappiness with politicians will only punish students and teachers, who
will have waited

almost a decade even if this project proceeds on schedule.

The reasons to vote "YES" are straightforward: we have a concrete plan,
exhaustively vetted by experts, that provides a creative solution to fully
supporting

Newton's excellent educational program on a challenging site. Please join
us in voting "YES" on January 23rd.
