CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 156 CABOT STUDENTS WHO TRIED DECEMBER'S MATH
CHALLENGE !

 

Please find this months Math Challenge & attached the file containing the
solution to Decembers challenge, which will be posted on the Cabot PTO
website shortly & is also on the Math Challenge Notice Board at school which
is located opposite the Art Room.

Please do not contact the PTO Presidents if you have a problem reading the
attachment.

Problem #3

 

1. At Cabot School Bake Sale they sell Oatmeal Cookies for $.09 each, Peanut
Butter Cookies for $.12 each and Chocolate Chip Cookies for $.15 each.

a. What could you get in a $1.50 bag of cookies? Try to find several
possibilities.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

b. What is the maximum number of cookies (and type of cookies) you could get
in a $1.50 bag?  

 

 

 

 

 

 

c. Could you get a $1.50 bag of cookies with no chocolate chip cookies?
What cookies would it include?

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2. Tory's uncle tells her he has some coins in his pocket. Tory can have
them, if she can say exactly the amount of money in his pocket. He gives
Tory these clues. Can you help Tory? 
CLUES:

*       All the coins are nickels and dimes, but they are not all one kind
of coin. 

*       There are between 7 and 10 coins. 

*       There are more dimes than nickels. 

*       You could have the same amount of money with quarters only.
