The Cabot School PTO is excited to announce this new capital campaign. It will raise funds to purchase essential technology for our children’s classrooms and will kick-off this fall.
WHY NOW?
The faculty and parents of Cabot’s Technology Committee, together with Newton Public Schools’ technology coordinator, have surveyed our current inventory. Here's what we found:
- More than a third of our computers are more than 10 years old.
- 55% of the equipment in our classrooms is over five years old.
- The state mandates a ratio of 1 computer to every 5 students; Cabot's ratio is 1 computer to every 8.5 students.
- Cabot ranks 12th out of 15 Newton elementary schools when comparing the ratio of students to computers.
- Teachers waste more and more time trying to prepare lessons for computers that lack up-to-date software, sufficient memory or the ability to access online curriculum tools.
WHAT CAN WE DO?
Cabot faculty and Technology Committee members are in the process of preparing a comprehensive list of our school's technology needs. This list will drive our fundraising efforts. Detailed information will be available here in the fall.
In the meantime, please see a list of important questions and answers surrounding the use of technology in our classrooms and the drivers behind our fundraising efforts - from why technology is such a top priority at Cabot to why we need a fundraiser at all.
